Itinerary
Welcome to your tour with Europamundo! We’ll transfer you to the hotel and you’ll have some free time. In the afternoon, you’ll find information about the start of your tour on the boards located at the hotel reception.
We´ll embark on a city tour of Athens with a local guide, visiting landmarks such as the Presidential Mansion, the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held, the National Library, and the bustling squares of the city center. We´ll also explore the newer neighborhoods that developed after the 2004 Olympic Games. The tour will conclude at the Acropolis (admission not included). In the evening, we´ll provide a transfer to the historical neighborhood of Plaka, renowned for its charming Greek tavernas and opportunities to immerse yourself in the rich folklore of this country.
Today’s Highlights: Kamena Vourla, Thermopylae, Kastraki & Meteora Monasteries
We begin our journey early, heading north through scenic Greece with our first stop in Kamena Vourla, a charming seaside town surrounded by mountains and tranquil seascapes—perfect for a short, refreshing break.
Continuing north, we visit the legendary Thermopylae Mountain Pass, the historic site of the famous battle between the Spartans and the Persian army.
Next, we arrive in the picturesque village of Kastraki, where you’ll enjoy free time for lunch while taking in stunning valley views and traditional Greek architecture.
In the afternoon, we explore the Meteora, a dramatic and awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Site, where monasteries are perched atop towering rock formations. Admission to one monastery is included.
Our day ends with dinner in Kalabaka, a nearby town nestled at the foot of the Meteora cliffs.
Our journey south takes us through the scenic Thessaly region, offering captivating landscapes as we head toward Delphi. Upon arrival, we’ll explore the exquisite archaeological site that overlooks the Gulf of Corinth, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valley. You’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch in this historic location.
Next, we visit the Hosios Loukas Monastery, one of the most beautiful Byzantine monasteries in Greece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery’s 11th-century mosaics are truly awe-inspiring and a must-see highlight of the day.
We then continue our journey to Athens, arriving in the evening to conclude a day filled with history, culture, and stunning scenery.
Today’s journey is a unique opportunity to explore the Saronic Islands, a beautiful archipelago off the coast of Greece. Starting early, we’ll take a ferry from the hotel to Aegina, an island with a rich history dating back over 4,000 years. Once there, you’ll have time to explore the picturesque harbor, wander through traditional neighborhoods, and visit the Temple of Apollo, an ancient Greek landmark.
Next, we’ll hop on another ferry to the charming island of Poros, located about 1 hour and 15 minutes away. Enjoy free time on the island, where lively tourist activity blends with old houses climbing towards the clock tower, offering a perfect place to relax, stroll, and have lunch.
Afterward, we’ll board a short 15-minute ferry ride to Galatas, a coastal village in the Peloponnese. From here, we continue by road through stunning hillside landscapes toward Epidaurus, home to the Ancient Theatre, a remarkable 2,400-year-old structure that’s still in use today and can accommodate up to 14,000 spectators. Admission to the theatre is included.
Our day ends in Nafplio, a charming coastal city famous for its Venetian fortress and citadel. You’ll have free time to explore the beautiful streets before enjoying a delicious dinner to conclude the day’s adventures.
Today, we journey through the mountains of the Peloponnese, heading toward Tripoli, the capital of the Arcadia region. You’ll have free time to explore Areos Square, a lively hub filled with cafés and restaurants—perfect for soaking in the local atmosphere.
Next, we continue to Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, held here as early as 776 BC. Explore the Archaeological Site (ticket and guided tour included), where you’ll see the majestic Temple of Zeus, the Stadium, the Gymnasium, and the Arena, all part of the ancient Olympic complex.
Our final stop of the day is Patras, Greece’s third-largest city and an important port town. Dominated by a medieval fortress, Patras also boasts Greece’s largest cathedral, a major pilgrimage site, as well as the nearby old church of St. Andrew.
After a day of exploration, enjoy a relaxing dinner in Patras before we conclude our journey.
After breakfast, we’ll cross the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, an engineering marvel that connects the Peloponnese with mainland Greece. Our first stop is Nafpaktos, located on the scenic Gulf of Corinth. Here, you’ll see the Venetian fortress that overlooks the city, a reminder of the historic Battle of Lepanto, where the Christian and Turkish fleets clashed in 1571, during which Cervantes famously lost his arm. You’ll have free time to stroll through the picturesque harbor and explore the charming old town.
Continuing along the Gulf of Corinth, we reach Mycenae, a colossal citadel dating back to the 18th century BC and considered the cradle of European civilization. Admission to the archaeological site is included, and you’ll have free time to explore the ruins and enjoy lunch.
Next, we visit the imposing Fortress of Acrocorinth, where the ancient temple of Aphrodite still stands at the highest point of the settlement (admission included). Afterward, we make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, an engineering feat that connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea.
We conclude the day’s journey by arriving in Athens in the evening.
After breakfast, we will bid farewell to this incredible journey, leaving you with wonderful lasting memories of Greece’s rich history, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable experiences.
